From Detection to Conversion

Zeb asked three times what outcome spin capture produces; the instruments could only answer what went wrong, so they were rebuilt to report what was done about it — then all 8 open signal entries were dispositioned and the one real defect among them fixed.

Timeline

  1. Start

    A month-old red banner

Zeb: is this severity I'm not understanding, or noise to tune down?

  2. Early

The banner was understating by 3x

Every spin already carried a hand-assigned category the tool ignored

  3. Mid

Three asks for the same thing

'Categorizing is not the outcome. What are we doing about it?'

  4. Mid

    151 artifacts, never once displayed

Conversion was real and improving; no instrument showed it

  5. Late

    Vocabulary aligned, page wired

Alloy's names won; conversion ported behind a drift test

  6. Close

    58 findings worked to zero

1 real defect fixed properly, 57 marked with honest reasons

What shipped

  • forgekit-os/scripts/spin-conversion.mjs — reads what each captured spin BECAME (hook/test/code/prose), plus open-deferral aging, from each session's own spin_triage record

  • forgekit-os/scripts/pulse.mjs — replaced the hot-categories banner with conversion + open deferrals; now reads each spin's declared category instead of re-deriving it from prose

  • products/alloy/lib/signals/conversion.ts — disclosed mirror of the OS module, wired into the Signals page as a 'What the spins became' section with an explanatory Drawer

  • products/alloy/lib/forgekit-os.ts — loads spin_triage, which was never read at all (the reason the Signals page could show the disease but not the treatment)

  • forgekit-os/scripts/tests/mirror-drift-conversion.test.mjs — behavioral drift test feeding identical inputs to both implementations, including the full 340-session corpus

  • forgekit-os/charges/needs-a-charge-disposition-2026-09-26.md — per-entry disposition of all 8 Needs-a-Charge entries against their real spins

  • forgekit-os/scripts/check-source-asserting-tests.mjs — detects a test asserting on source text instead of runtime behavior; enforcing, corpus clean

  • forgekit-os/scripts/spawn-fresh-actor.mjs — makeRunners() takes an injectable executor so the gh/git routing invariant is tested by calling the real code
