The Epilogue, Screen-Text Fixes, and a Real Image-Generation Limit

Wrote a properly-sourced 6-slide epilogue after independently verifying 10 candidate theses against the real record, fixed 3 slides' screen-text density, and found — by actually checking, not assuming — that the image model can't reliably preserve composition across paired prompts.

Timeline

  1. Start

Zeb: 'yes to both' — continue into epilogue and screen-text work

Picked up after a close checkpoint on the prior correction pass

  2. Early

Delegated the 10-thesis sourcing pass to an Explore agent

Systematic grep/read of anvils.md and strikes.md in full, per-thesis verdict with quotes and citations, explicit self-evidence overreach flags

  3. Mid

Drafted the epilogue as a document for review, not directly into the manifest

7 of 10 theses graded Strong, 2 Weak, 1 initially Unsupported (found later in extraction-backlog.md instead)

  4. Mid

Applied the 3 named screen-text-density fixes

ch2-s2, ch7-s2, ch8-s3 — body text replaced with short evidence fragments, narration left untouched

  5. Mid

Extended the player with an imageB crossfade capability

Fresh Extraction Gate evidence written; additive-only, non-regressive by construction

  6. Mid

Generated 6 sequential motion images, then actually looked at them

Zeb had specified real progression over CSS-only tricks — checked 3 pairs directly and found the image model does not reliably preserve composition across paired prompts, despite explicit same-composition instructions

  7. Late

Reported the failure honestly instead of pushing forward or quietly discarding the work

Zeb chose: keep the 6 images as standalone assets, not a forced pairing

  8. Close

Built the epilogue into the manifest, generated its audio, verified end to end, committed

51/51 slides, 51/51 images, zero errors, confirmed via real headless-browser navigation to the new chapter

What shipped

  • docs/forgekit-os-history/deck/manifest.json — new Chapter 12 epilogue (6 slides), screen-text fixes on 3 existing slides

  • docs/forgekit-os-history/deck/audio/ch12-s0.mp3 through ch12-s5.mp3 — 6 new narration files

  • docs/forgekit-os-history/deck/images/ai-in-the-loop.png — the epilogue chapter's image

  • docs/forgekit-os-history/epilogue-assets/ — 6 additional images held unwired (motion-test outputs, individually strong, not usable as designed pairs)

  • packages/forgekit-narrated-deck/player/deck.html — new optional imageB/imageBCrop crossfade capability

  • packages/forgekit-narrated-deck/README.md — documents the imageB field and its intended use

“yes to both”
— Zeb, confirming both the close checkpoint and continuing into epilogue/screen-text work in the same breath
